The effect of supplementation of wheat-based diet with different enzymes on broilers performance

Introduction: Wheat is used as an important source of energy in poultry. While wheat contains more anti-nutritional factors such as non-starch polysaccharides (NSPs) which can affect the bird’s growth. This experiment was performed to investigate the effects of different enzymes including Xylanase, Beta-Glucanase, Mannanase, Cellulase, and Glucose oxidase on the performance of broilers fed wheat-based diets.
Materials & Methods: In this experiment, a total of 1440 ROSS 308 broilers were randomly divided into 96 pens including 15 birds in each pen. The control group received a wheat-based diet without any enzymatic supplementation. Different doses of Xylanase including 1000, 2000, and 4000 μ/Kg, Mannanase including doses of 2500, 5000 and 10000 μ/Kg, Betaglucanase including doses of 500, 1500 and 3000 μ/Kg, Cellulase including doses of 1000, 2000 and 4000 μ/Kg and Glucose oxidase enzyme including doses of 40, 50 and 60 μ/Kg, respectively, were considered. At the beginning of the experiment, all 15 birds were weighed and assigned to the experimental pens. At the end of days 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days, all chickens in each pen were weighed. Mean body weight, body weight gain, feed intake, and feed conversion ratio were calculated.
Results: The results of this experiment showed that on day 35 of the rearing period, the weight of chickens in the group consuming 4000 μ/Kg Xylanase increased significantly compared to the control group. On days 35 and 42, the weight of chickens in the groups consuming Beta Gluconase increased significantly compared to the control group (p<0.05). Also, on days 28, 35, and 42 of the rearing periods, the weight of chickens in the group consuming 4000 μ/Kg Cellulase increased (p<0.05). The group consuming 60 g/kg Glucroxidase showed better performance than the control group on days 28, 35, and 42 of the breeding periods (p<0.05). The feed intake of the group consuming 60 and 50 g/kg Glucosidase increased significantly compared to the control group (p<0.05).
Conclusion: Using different doses of Xylanase, Beta-Glucanase, and Glucose Oxidase enzymes have improved the performance of broilers fed wheat-based diets.
